Big Bear Cabins

Big Bear Mountain in California is one of the most popular vacation destinations in the Western United States. A far sight less expensive than Aspen, Colorado, Big Bear offers the same type of entertainment that is affordable to the regular Joe’s and Jane’s of the world. That doesn’t mean you won’t run into any celebrities in Southern California, however. It just means that you won’t break your bank trying to book a vacation. And one of the most popular places to stay is in one of the many wonderful Big Bear cabins.

Big Bear cabins sit along the lakeside, and up and down the many ski trails. The area is one of the region’s most progressively changing and popular terrain parks. There are hundreds of Big Bear cabins able to be rented, and quite a few for sale. The most popular cabins in the area, without a doubt, sit on the lake. Big Bear Lake is an enormous reservoir in the San Bernardino Mountains in the county of the same name. It’s 7 miles long and almost 3 miles wide at its widest point, and it averages about 50 ft in depth. The lake offers year-round vacation potential.

Many water skiers and other lovers of water sports take advantage of Big Bear cabins on the lakefront every year. Unlike the hillside cabins, the lakeside properties are ideal for summer conditions. The lake is snow fed, meaning that it relies on the melting snow from atop the mountain in order to stay full. But even without the optimal amount of snow, this destination is still a great place to visit.

The Serrano Indians were among the first settlers at Big Bear Lake. And when the original American settlers decided to head west, it was the home of many native grizzly bears as well. The area got its name due to the abundance of bears. Some of the earliest Big Bear cabins are still standing – though not in the immediate vacationing area.

Big Bear cabins are luxurious and affordable, and that’s a hard combination to find in today’s marketplace. Of course, the majority of people simply rent them for a week or two, but during that time, they’re able to live like kings with all the latest appliances and amenities provided for them. A far cry from the originals, the Big Bear cabins of today are classic on the outside and ultra modern on the inside. If you’ve never seen the lake from inside a cabin, you don’t know what you’re missing.
